There's fairly well-documented evidence about how deep the Tea Party's ties are to business.

For example: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/08/30/100830fa_fact_mayer

I loved the line "The Republicans are making it really difficult for me to vote as an independent this year."

I agree so much.Cathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05950902640992362429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32806324.post-28841802509573181232010-10-06T17:49:55.717-06:002010-10-06T17:49:55.717-06:00I think one of our biggest challenges in American ...I think one of our biggest challenges in American politics is that many people associate important issues with highly-sensitive buzzwords they don't fully understand.

Any time you say abortion, public option, bailout, illegal immigration, Obama, etc., the logic portion of their brain shuts down, the emotional part goes into overdrive, and it becomes nearly impossible to have a rational conversation.

My grandpa (who is otherwise a wonderful, upstanding individual), is firmly convinced that our current president is a worthless liberal who can do no right. If you try to defend Obama in any way, Grandpa will just repeat all the criticism he has heard from his favorite conservative pundits.

For my part, I try to avoid discussing politics with anyone (pundit or otherwise) who thinks one side is always wrong/deluded/evil, etc.Kimberly Bluestockinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18437063911115422205noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32806324.post-76036634123947981852010-10-06T12:55:31.845-06:002010-10-06T12:55:31.845-06:00I always really enjoy these posts your write. I was extremely disheartened earlier this year when Senator Bob Bennett of Utah was not chosen by his own party to run for re-election. Instead they picked two extreme-right candidates to run in the primary.Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00248348740599788697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32806324.post-86393547690978422812010-10-05T16:10:45.238-06:002010-10-05T16:10:45.238-06:00Mike-you might even be more cynical about the Teas...Mike-you might even be more cynical about the Teas than I am. And not to worry about money in politics. Our conservative Supreme Court guaranteed that there will be plenty of that. The paper reported yesterday that these big corporations in desperate need of tax breaks to create jobs are actually stockpiling cash reserves (borrowed at historically low rates) and waiting for the economy to improve before they hire, etc. Ironically the economy won't actually improve until they begin hiring . . .

I love the bumper-sticker style campaign slogans on Mr. Brown's website. If Greg Mortensen wins the Nobel Peace Prize this week, I think I'll send Mr. Brown a copy of Three Cups of Tea. Here is my favorite line from Mr. Brown's self-written biography, including the misplaced apostrophe:

"I was also a Taxicab driver and evangelist in Boise, ID where I led approximately 1,000 lost souls to the Lord Jesus Christ: drunks and winos, hookers and strippers, bums, and homeless; hippies and rainbow people, bikers, and villains, truckers and construction workers, businessmen and proletariats, psychos and weirdo's, homos and lesbians; even some people who looked normal and smelled nice."

Such a lovely Christian Sentiment linked to his central theme of "Nuke their ass and take their gas."

Oh. Boy. Please tell me he didn't win the primary?Science Teacher Mommyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16579558647324072199noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32806324.post-61244482407967039522010-10-05T14:02:42.162-06:002010-10-05T14:02:42.162-06:00"Take our country back" does resonate wi..."Take our country back" does resonate with me for the reason I hear it as a lament at the moneyed special interests that control so much of politics (I think there is a pretty good argument that the Tea Party movement itself was not grass roots, but was inspired by big business trying to get a more business-friendly less regulatory regime in place). To the extent it is about taking the country back from the non-whites, yeah, bad idea.

Your candidates sound lovely.

At least they aren't this guy:

http://www.harleydbrownforcongress.orgmstangerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09639843518912282840noreply@blogger.com
