The Persian Pickle Club by Sandra Dallas, suggested by Loradona. There was also a seconded recommendation to read something by Sandra Dallas.
I have to admit to being rather overwhelmed by this year's list. Of the 45 listed here, I've only read ONE Of them (Les Miserable), and only heard of a few books and/or authors. Clearly I'm out of some very important loop. And one of my goals this year is to read less? Yikes.
Here are the rest of the recommendations compiled, in no particular order because I'm just too lazy:
First They Killed My Father, Loung Ung
Nudge, Richard Thaler & Cass Sunstein
The Female Brain, Louann Brizendine
The Geography of Bliss, Eric Weiner
The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, Dai Sijie
When You Reach Me, Rebecca Stead
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, Alan Bradley (two recommendations)
The Wednesday Sisters, Meg Waite Clayton (two recommendations)
Lift, Kelly Corrigan
Yearning for the Living God, F. Enzio Busche (two recommendations)
Nothing Was the Same, Kay Redfield Jamison
Every Man in this Village is a Liar, Megan Stack

I really loved Elegance of the Hedgehog, I hope you enjoy it too!
xx
I've only read 2.5 of them (I read the abridged Les Mis). I second whoever recommended The Help. Very good read.
Sorry to hear you (or one of the kids) has been sick. :/
I have not read your winners either, so WIN-WIN!
:)
Hooray! I'm a winner! I hope you enjoy The Persian Pickle Club. I had to be talked into reading it, but I was not sorry that I read it.
I've heard really good things about a lot of these books, most recently about "Room" and "Matched."
Can't wait to hear your reviews!
My kids have conjunctivitis too. All three of them. Bleh.
In your defense, I think most of us were trying to suggest something we love that we thought there was a good possibility you hadn't read yet. So, perhaps the results mean we know how to "read" you.
