Trying to Get My Head Above Water

I've got a long post nearly ready. It is all about my vacation and what I learned, etc. etc. The problem is that I am two weeks out and Disneyland is feeling so last month because I also want to post about my awesome Thanksgiving dinner, the extremely cool changes that are taking place in our ward, this must-read article by (the great) Kathryn Soper, etc. etc.

Instead I'm taking time out from my regularly scheduled life to point out the following:

Flynn Ryder is adorable.

"You became my new dream, Rapunzel."

????????????????????

Talk about your Darcy Effect.

I haven't seen this movie yet but plan to in a couple of weeks with my daughter. She loves the really WEIRD story of Rapunzel. I'm sure the movie is not as strange as the original!

Welcome, Magen. I don't think we've met. I think the adaptation is faithful, incorporating the most essential elements from the original and just twisting them on their head a bit. Weird + cute = Disney Magic.

Laura really wants to see the movie, but it'll be awhile before it's near us in English. She did do a writing assignment for school recently, though, in which she related the story from the point of view of the hair.

The original/weird Rapunzel, if I remember correctly, involved the Prince being thrown out of the tower into thorn bushes and having his eyes scratched out after which Rapunzel was forced to birth and raise twins while wandering the desert. Thankfully, none of those elements were included in the Disney version. I very much loved this movie. I discovered that I find Zachary Levi dreamy in both his live and animated forms. Good times.

True, Scully, but part of that original also involved her finding him, blind and wandering; she weeps onto his still beautiful face and he is healed. So, the whole magic tears thing, is preserved.

Visually, I thought the film was actually quite stunning. The golden lights in the "resurrection" scene makes Beauty and the Beast look just plain mediocre.

The scene when she first comes to the city on the festival day is so much fun that I wanted to get up and dance myself. And put a few flowers in my hair, to be quite honest.
